This sabbatical will offer us an opportunity to accomplish our dream to find an expanded sense of joy and purpose in home and family life. We hope to stretch our experience of family in ways that will substantially enrich our lives as well as the lives of those closest to us. During this time we will be with our families and relate in new ways. Our goal is to transform good relationships into great relationships.
Dr. Seuss says, If you want to catch beasts you don't see every day you have to go places quite out of the way. You have to go places no one can get to. You have to get cold and you have to get wet too. The hope is that this sabbatical will offer us a once in a lifetime opportunity to go places quite out of the way, places that will enrich and deepen our most important relationships so we may grow personally, interpersonally, intellectually, spiritually and practically in ways that would be impossible without this experience.
These include:
- A marriage enrichment week on Coronado Island, California and then a few days relaxing at the beach.
- A week with Lee's Mother and Sisters in Oklahoma.
- A fun long weekend with children and grandchildren in the Laurel Highlands.
- Cooking classes.
- Gardening classes at Phipps Conservatory.
- Work with a dog trainer to help alleviate some of Keegan's frightful anxieties.
- Study on marriage and family directed by a seminary professor.
- Two weeks in London and the English countryside.
With thankful hearts, we want to express our gratitude to our church family for this opportunity, to our colleagues who have shown constant support, to our families and friends for all they give us, and certainly to the Lilly Endowment for making this experience possible.
Please check back on June 1st when we begin regular blog posts and then travel with us throughout the pligrimage. Sign up and "follow us" on our adventures. We'd love to have you join us!
