Last week I
spent a wonderful week with my Mom and two sisters. It was a rare
opportunity for adults in a nuclear family to spend quality time together over
an extended period. Usually, when we get together, it’s for a holiday or family
event and, as great as those are, they do not offer the opportunity to really
visit and talk.
The first
picture is of my Mom and me. She now lives in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the first
capital of the state, a scenic small town, tourist destination, and center for
the arts.
The second
picture is of yours truly with my two sisters. On the left is sister Lynn, a
terrific teacher who lives with her husband, TJ, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee,
just South of Nashville. On the right is Lonnie, who lives on a beautiful ranch
in central Oklahoma. Thanks to Lonnie and her husband, Terry, for their
gracious hospitality in hosting us.
We spent
the week doing all kinds of fun things together. We made sand plum jelly, took
Mom to her doctor’s appointment, went to church at Westminster Presbyterian of
Oklahoma City, visited the Cowboy Hall of Fame, and spent a lot of time just laughing
and reminiscing. The every day temperatures of over one hundred degrees didn’t slow us down at
all.
The week
proved to be a delightfully enriching experience for which I will forever be
grateful. I felt a real sense of connection with my family.
I am so glad that all went well. You were on my mind all week. It sounds like there were some unforgettable moments. How great to have this as a lifetime memory.
